Are you independently owned? Do you value the families you serve above all else? Then you might be the perfect fit for our association. OGR welcomes funeral homes into membership that offer a full range of funeral services, support and merchandise. As a member of OGR, you will be connected to members who hold the same strong values and business ethics as you. Fewer than 5% of independently owned funeral homes can call themselves Golden Rule Funeral Homes and those that do are committed to adhere to a set of 11 ethical standards.

Why you should join

Running a successful independent funeral home in today’s ever-changing world requires more than hard work and good business practices. You need the right contacts, a technical edge and sound business advice; all of which come with the privilege of being a Golden Rule Funeral Home.

  • Developed from years of research and analysis, OGR's Family Contact Program uses customer feedback to provide you with insight about your funeral home’s services and operations by capturing what is most important to families and what independent funeral homes need to know in order to further advance their businesses.
  • OGR Supply Partner NetworkOGR has partnered with over 40 supply partners to give you access to everything you need for your business from traditional and modern caskets and urns, to financing and investment services, business consulting, embalming and prep room supplies, and much more.
  • Communicate with families about preneed, at-need and grief care using booklets, pamphlets and cards designed exclusively for OGR members.
  • Tap into the expertise of thousands of funeral professionals. With the Member Connections Network you can find members who have the knowledge you need, and email the entire membership for recommendations, ideas or feedback.
  • OGR's flagship quarterly magazine, The Independent, keeps you on track with trends in funeral service, sales on products and services, ideas that have worked for other members, and tips for improving your business.
  • In partnership with NFDA, OGR offers the lowest music & webcasting licensing fees in the industry, allowing you to keep a song in the heart of your funeral services.
  • Offer a grief support group that you don’t have to run. OGR offers our members access to a monthly telephone grief support group that is facilitated by our own grief expert, Nancy Weil.

Membership types

OGR membership is at the company level. Every funeral director who works for that company is then able to set up a profile to access benefits like continuing education, the member directory, digital copies of the Independent quarterly magazine and more.

Dues are set up on a tiered structure based on your operation's annual case volume. If you have multiple locations, all locations within a 100 mile radius will be grouped together under a single membership with all of their cases combined to determine your dues level.
