OLIVERIE FUNERAL HOME RECEIVES OGR COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

AUSTIN, TEXAS, MAY 7, 2019 – The International Order of the Golden Rule (OGR) is proud to announce that Oliverie Funeral Home in Manchester, NJ was awarded the 2019 Golden Rule Community Service Award at OGR’s Annual Conference & Solution Center in Williamsburg, VA on April 26. OGR is the world’s leading professional association dedicated to making independent funeral homes exceptional. The Golden Rule Community Service Award, now in its ninth year, is awarded in recognition of a funeral home’s outstanding community service as demonstrated by activities benefiting local organizations or community events.

Oliverie hosted a blood drive with Central Jersey Blood Center on Saturday February 17, 2018 from 10 to 2 PM. They posted the event on Facebook asking for a commitment from friends, neighbors and the great people who follow them. It only took two weeks but they had exceeded the necessary number of commitments and set the date with Central Jersey Blood Center.

Their motto was “Thank you for making a Life-Saving difference!”

They picked February for two reasons; first it was national blood donor month; and second, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in February. Oliverie wanted people to donate blood in memory of their loved ones who may have needed a blood transfusion in the months or years prior to their death. It was a way for them to offer their thanks and help pay it forward. All together they were able to collect over 35 pints of blood, a pint of rare blood type needed, and plasma from those who were qualified.

The local newspaper helped with advertising and the office staff made red drops of blood large enough to write a sentiment and name on.  As donors came in for their appointments, they were offered the paper drops of blood and they appreciated the chance to share their story of why they were donating. The droplets were displayed on poster boards around the funeral home for several days.

“It’s this type of work that helps bring communities together, and it’s OGR member firms like Oliverie Funeral Home that embrace and encourage community involvement year round,” said Adam Martin, OGR’s Immediate Past President.
