ROGER BEYERS HONORED WITH ASSOCIATION’S HIGHEST HONOR

AUSTIN, TEXAS, MAY 7, 2019 – The International Order of the Golden Rule (OGR) is proud to announce Roger Beyers of Beyers Funeral Home and Crematory, Leesburg, FL as the winner of the 2019 Golden Light Award. OGR is the world’s leading professional association dedicated to making independent funeral homes exceptional. The Golden Light Award is the association’s highest honor, and it recognizes an individual who has made specific, meritorious contributions to society through his or her profession, community or field of voluntary service as career achievements.

OGR President Tom Hemmerle announced Beyers as the award winner during the OGR 2019 Annual Conference and Solution Center in Williamsburg, VA on April 26. He said, “Roger has been dedicated to our profession and to the future of the Independent funeral home throughout his career. Twenty eight years ago after the Independent Funeral Directors of Florida was founded, he spent a tremendous amount of time at the Florida state capital fighting for both the independent funeral homes and the public. Roger served as treasurer for the first eight years and became president of IFDF in 1998. He received the association’s highest award for his timeless efforts for his profession, which is the W. Clyde Langford Award. He also served on OGR’s board and has served on countless committees, pushing OGR to be wise with its spending, discerning with utilizing the Association’s resources, and creative in its approach to serving independent funeral homes. He joined OGR because he saw and felt a difference in the direction OGR was going to help the independent funeral professionals thrive.”

Roger Beyers is the third generation at his family firm. He has grown the business to five locations, making them the largest Independent funeral homes in Florida.  He is very active in his community with organizations like the Kiwanis Club of which he is a past president. He spent 12 years on the Lake and Sumter Hospice operation board and served as president. He also served two different terms on the Leesburg Chamber of Commerce.  He was elected to the North Lake County Hospital Taxing District for four years and was asked to serve as a trustee for Central Florida Health of which he is now Chair.

Roger is also dedicated to his wife Heather and his two sons, Roger Beyers, Jr. and Will Beyers.
